Breckenridge, Colorado Mountain Activities & Recreation

Breck, as it’s affectionately called by locals (as well as Breckenfridge for its consistently cold weather when the snow flies), is truly a winter wonderland. At the base of Ten Mile Range, Breckenridge enjoys some of the best and longest staying snow in the Rockies. Perfect for that snowmobile trip into the back country, for ice fishing some of the biggest trout you’ll catch, for sledding, dog sledding, snowshoeing and of course skiing and snowboarding.

When the snows melt, the rivers run full, the mountain blooms and where there were once ski runs, you’ll find pristine hiking and extreme mountain biking. Whitewater rafting and kayaking are big draws here, as Breckenridge sits close to the Upper Colorado and Blue Rivers which have some of the most difficult rapids in the State.

In the mood for something more serene? Take a scenic drive through the Rockies on your way to discover that perfect and secluded fly fishing spot. Mountain salmon run here in the fall, so you might want to postpone that summer trip into an autumn one and catch the breathtaking changing of the leaves at 9,000 feet as well.

For the history buff in your clan, come discover abandoned historic mines and museums, roadside monuments to the first families to settle here and small preserved graveyards from as far back as 1890. And you thought Breckenridge was just another ski town.
