Twinned with sister city Central City, and so close it’s hard to tell where one begins and the other ends, the city of Black Hawk is pulling on its history as a gold mining town. Nestled in the Clear Creek Canyon, Black Hawk exploded with the gold rush and, after the population had mostly moved on after the boom, is now exploding again with financial promise for those willing to roll a dice, as it were.
Famous around Colorado for limited-stake gambling, Black Hawk now draws the crowds the gold once did. With many buildings restored, old saloons, abandoned brothels turned hotels and modern-day saloons, this little town that could, is proving it still can. Add to the mix outdoor recreation within a short drive; everything from skiing to snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing to hiking, camping and whitewater rafting, and you have the recipe for an exciting vacation in the mountains.
