Dancing at The Orpheum

Please add to your Gold Rush Days activities as a “must do”–Square Dancing in the Orpheum on
Saturday, August 11 from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Come up to the second floor of the Orpheum and
enjoy a variety of square dancing by local and areas square dancers of all ages. Watch square
dance and Round dance demonstrations, talk to square dancers who dance locally and even
participate by learning the beginning lessons of square dancing and line dancing. A wonderful,
fun time for all ages.

Charlie Robertson, a very popular caller from Denver, will be calling the type of
square dancing that is done now. The Monarch Mavericks Square Dance Club of
Salida will be dancing “tips” for the audience enjoyment If you are interested in
learning to square dance, come meet the members of these local chapters and
enjoy their dancing.
Some Round dancing will also be demonstrated. |

Learn and practice square dancing by taking a short lesson from Charlie
Robertson. There is no charge to get to “try out” this wonderful past time that is
danced throughout the world. Meet some of the members of the Monarchs
Mavericks and find out how to learn and enjoy square dancing. |

Line Dancing. Line dancing is becoming very popular. Dance steps are taught
and they can be fit into any type of music. It is great exercise and a wonderful
way to meet people who are interested in dancing. Betty Scofield, a summer
resident from Arizona, leads a group of people at the Buena Vista Community
Center every Monday nights at 7:00 pm, advanced class at 8:00 pm. Cost is $3.
This group meets year round with members learn and practice together. Don’t
miss seeing this performance which is new to the Gold Rush Days entertainment.
