Ouray, Colorado Mountain Activities & Recreation

Come explore the world’s first ice climbing park, complete with ice waterfalls. Ski Telluride or take the kids to the ski hill in town while you visit the historic museums and mining tours. Visit Box Canyon Falls Park, a “wonder of the world” due to steep terrain and continuous snowmelt, or take a train ride 3,300 feet into the earth itself to explore the history of gold and silver mining in Ouray. Hike the hills, ski the mountain, fish the rivers and camp the wilderness in the embrace of the towering mountains, then come down and soak in the natural hot springs to end a day of pure adventure.

Colorado is famous for its snow. Nowhere on earth can you find powder the likes of which falls freely on our mountains. When in Ouray enjoy snowshoeing, hiking, horseback rides and sleigh rides, as well as venturing out of the small valley to experience the row upon row of mountain waiting to be skied. Whatever your passion on the hills, Ouray can serve as a hub from which to explore the best of Colorado.

Summer in a true mountain valley town just cannot be beat. Hiking, mountain biking, camping and festivals await you when weather turns warm. Visit Box Canyon Falls Park, a natural wonder of the world with its steep terrain and rocky outcrops designed by the continuous snowmelt. The Park was recently designated an important bird area by the national Audubon society, so if tracking down the wild birds of Colorado peaks your interest, this is the place to be.
