Once the seat of the wild west, there's still a world of adventure to be had in Del Norte.

Head north of town and you'll find a rock climbers paradise in Penitente Canyon, featured in Climbing magazine and a huge draw for climbing enthusiasts world wide. While you're there check out the natural arch formation at the Arch of La Garita. Lose yourself northwest of Del Norte in the Wheeler Geologic Area nestled in the San Juan Mountains, a wonder of nature and something everyone should see at least once.

If fishing is on your itinerary, sections of the Rio Grande boast Gold Medal status where the brown trout bite hard and often. The area's hiking trails reveal sights of rivers twisting through canyons and aspen groves, staggering peaks and natural wildlife. In July, the Del Norte Mountain Bike Stage Race comes to town which always offers bikers a challenge.
