From an easy spin to an all day epic singletrak adventure, Fourteener Country has it all in mountain biking opportunities. Literally at the Crossroads of the Rockies, the valley is intersected by a number of Colorado's long distance trails, including the 470 mile long Colorado Trail, the 100 plus mile Rainbow Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail which spans the state. The Crest Trail at Monarch Pass has received national attention for its miles of winding singletrack along the Continental Divide and its multiple options for long descents back down to the valley below. These trails, coupled with other shorter singletrack trails, numerous jeep roads and Forest Service Roads, almost makes deciding where to ride a bewildering task. There truly is riding to suit everyone, from first time mountain bikers to seasoned veterans.
In this diverse land of the Fourteeners, mountain biking is not just a summer experience. From the alpine tundra, which can only be explored in midsummer, to the aspen and spruce forests on the flanks of the Sawatch and Sangre de Christo mountains in summer and fall, to the mostly snow free high desert terrain of the Arkansas Hills' Midland Trail and adjacent Big Horn Sheep Canyon, the seasons provide a changing palette of riding opportunities throughout the year.
